Mechanicsville Branch Library
PROJECT
Summary
Situated within a few hundred yards of a high-school and within walking distance to nearby neighborhoods, this new library has many fine details all built to benefit the surrounding community. Plans included a children’s reading area and a teen focus space, as well as large conference and meeting rooms and an outdoor reading patio. The space was designed with an open floor plan, high ceilings and clerestory windows which maximize daylight. The curving curtain wall and 18’ dome bring in more architectural interest. In fact, this feature was crafted using an argricultural dome cap – one that is very typical in what you would find in the construction of a grain silo.
The design included the installation of many specialty lighting fixtures and crews installed the latest in data/communications technology. Painters worked with high level finishes and installed multiple colors throughout giving the building even more architectural interest.
